How is it that I can stand in the doorstep of a new year and not know where to begin? Searching for guidance, for solid ground in a world that seems anything but stable or trustworthy?
This is exactly why I turn again to the weathered pages of my Bible. I hold in my hands a volume of truth, all the things the LORD desires to tell me, all He longs to reveal to me about His heart.
I still have so much to learn. There is always something fresh and new and timely! Simple to understand. Straightforward. Eternally unchanging. Always applicable.
Just the other day, I was struck by a phrase in Job 29 – that friendship with GOD is something that can be felt in our homes. How staggering to think that the Almighty welcomes us into close relationship with Him? All through His Word we are encouraged to be diligent in knowing GOD, hungry to understand His heart.
The more we know Him, the more fully we appreciate how deeply we are known (and loved!) by Him. The more we know Him, the more our hearts respond in humble worship and adoration. The more we know Him, the more we trust Him. The more we know Him, the more determined we will be to reflect His character.
That kind of growth can only bring blessing and nearness to Him that is precious – and evident in our homes, in our daily errands, in our conversation, and in the purest moments we will treasure at the end of any given day, or year.
In this new year, where do we begin? Let today’s breakfast “psalm” encourage us to begin (and end) with pursuing knowledge of GOD, and letting that knowledge change us from the inside out: 🌿
