I am particularly touched to notice that the psalmists didn’t hide their struggles, but openly named them and vividly described them … but they also knew to Whom to bring them, they knew where to find unfailing love, a faithful place of rescue, and an endless source of HOPE!
I pray today’s breakfast “psalm” will bring fresh encouragement to you today . . .
Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am weak.
O LORD, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
My soul also is greatly troubled.
How long, O LORD?
O LORD, deliver me!
O save me for Your mercies’ sake!
My heart is severely pained within me …
fearfulness and trembling have come upon me
and horror has overwhelmed me.
You have need of assurance.
The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble;
He knows those who trust in Him.
You are my strength, I wait for You to rescue me.
For You, O GOD, are my fortress.
In His unfailing love, my GOD will stand with me.
When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.
You keep track of all my sorrows.
You have collected all my tears in Your bottle.
You have recorded each one in Your book.
This I know: GOD is on my side.
I praise GOD for what He has promised.
I trust in GOD, so why am I afraid?
I will offer a sacrifice of thanks for Your help.
You have rescued me from death.
You have kept my feet from slipping.
So now I can walk in Your Presence, O GOD,
in Your life-giving light.
