We live in the not-yet.  Many of our days are spent waiting.

It is deeply satisfying to check something off the list.  We like โ€œdone!โ€  It seems we are hard-wired for completion.  There is no greater joy than reaching the finish line.

On vinetobranches.com, we have spent this week thinking about a few of the gifts awaiting GODโ€™s people, expanding our view of the finish line that is our eternal Home.

Although GODโ€™s promises are sure and amen, and our confidence in their eventual fulfillment counts them as good as already completed, we still wait.  We long to know their full reality.

Especially when days stretch long and burdens weigh heavy, we ache for His final โ€œit is FINISHEDโ€ (Revelation 21:6).

While we wait, let us rehearse these truths to one another:

The One who finished the work of creation (Genesis 2:2), the One who finished the work of securing our redemption on Calvaryโ€™s cross (John 19:30) โ€“ a once-for-all, FINISHED work we can truly rest in โ€“ is the same One who declares Himself the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End (Revelation 21:6).

He is the One who will finish the stories He has written for our lives: โ€œbeing confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completionโ€ฆโ€ (Philippians 1:6).

The One we trust never leaves anything unfinished.  He is faithful.  His words are true.  What He has promised, He will fulfill.  One day, He will bring His redeemed ones Home to stay, He will declare His final judgment against unrepentant sin ended, and He will make all things new.

Our earthly trials will be finished.  The greatest joys we have treasured here will be eclipsed by delighting in His presence, the indescribable pleasure of being with Him forevermore.

โ€œNo eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what GOD has prepared for those who love Him.โ€ (1 Corinthians 2:9, NLT)

When our Savior declared, โ€œit is FINISHED!โ€ from the cross, we have no idea what He truly secured for us.  One day, we will drink it all in, lost in wonder and praise.

Let us not wait to express our grateful adoration.  Let our gaze be captivated by Him today and our hearts respond in humble worship that will never be finished!
