Back-to-school supplies were barely cleared from the shelves when I spotted the first few Christmas items slowly but surely filling newly emptied rows in our local store.  As the calendar silently turned to November 1st, the arrival of “Christmas” all over town seemed to erupt into an onslaught!  

I felt my heart race a little, jolted out of the beauty of autumn into an unsettling thought: a favorite, treasured season of the year is FAST approaching and I’m not ready!

Somehow, the final weeks of our year require a higher gear.  The holidays offer many wonderful blessings: gatherings of loved ones, favorite treats, sparkling lights, a spirit of kindness, and a thrill of hope!  

But, with the abundance of blessings also comes the challenge of fitting all this bounty into a few short weeks.  We long for joy … but end up overwhelmed and exhausted.  

We are not always quick to recognize it, but we all ache for the coming of our Savior, a reminder that there is One who steps in to rescue us.  There is One who causes our weary world to rejoice!  

A reassuring calm settles over us when we remember that JESUS is the reason for this season. This singular focus chases all other pressures away.  

And we wonder: in all that is bright and captivating right now, what might help us keep CHRIST at the center of Christmas?
