“I am here.”

A few weeks ago, friends from church and I wrapped up a year-long study of women in the Bible. Our final passage to consider was John 20, where the LORD JESUS met Mary Magdalene in a place of blinding grief and spoke one word that immediately brought comfort and peace to her broken heart.

He simply spoke her name. Recognizing His voice and realizing that He was alive and standing right in front of her brought a wave of joy and relief!

A personal reflection question in our study asked: “What word from the LORD speaks the most comfort or peace to your heart?”

After a thoughtful pause in our discussion, one person spoke these words and the others immediately and emphatically agreed: “I am here.”

“Don’t be afraid. I am here!” (John 6:20, NLT). “For I hold you by your right hand. I am the LORD your GOD. And I say to you, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.’” (Isaiah 41:13, NLT).

Of the things that might trouble our hearts on any given day, many remain unresolved and unexplained to us. BUT, the LORD JESUS offers one deeply touching and steadying promise: He will never leave us.

He will always speak the greatest peace through three simple words: “I am here.” (with you, for you, before you, behind you, to defend you, to redeem you, to protect you, to comfort you, to provide for you, to love you).

No matter what we face or what we wrestle, we are never alone. Our Savior is with us. Always. (Matthew 28:20)

How might it touch your heart to know that the LORD JESUS is right beside you, to hold you and to help you today?
